Nepal is prone to soil erosion disasters caused by slope failure, landslides, debris flows and bank erosion. 

Occupying 75% of the country’s area, the mountainous lands adorn most of its landscape. Despite its beautiful scenery, Nepal remains one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world. 

Pokhara Rural villagers depend directly on their natural environment for food, shelter and income. Forced to live on marginal lands of the outskirts of Pokhara, many of which are covered by clay soils (soil with high moisture levels), these provincial workers are subjected to slope instability. Trees planted here aid soil stabilisation, ensuring that soils become more resilient and more efficient at maintaining climate stability.
