Our theme is the sea and the human being. And the further we progress, the more clearly we are coming to recognize the extent of human influence on natural processes in the seas and oceans. Finding new answers on the global ecological crisis is at the heart of the foundation. Sustainable development demands long-term, holistic-oriented action and is not to be reduced to the sustainable use of maritime resources. The important thing is to make it clear that the natural world in its biological and physical phenomenology is of value per se and cannot be reduced to the isolated aspect of satisfaction of human needs.
