About this site

Phalee is a village in Lungchong-Maiphai Sub-Division about 20 km from Ukhrul and 75 Km from Imphal Manipur, India. It is located at an elevation of about 5083 ft. altitude and has geographical coordinates of 25.143524,94.28334. It occupies a total area of about 64 sq. km approx. It has Red Sandy Soils and annual rainfall of 2000 - 2400 mm. It has a subtropical pine forest climate. The village has a total of 794 households with 3742 persons of which 1934 are male while 1808 are female as per the 2011 census. Of the total population, 11.60% are in the age group of 0–6 years. The average sex ratio of the village is 904 females per 1000 males. The literacy rate of the village is 81.35%. It lies in the Indo-Burma and Eastern Himalayas Biodiversity Hot Spot Region of the world wherein the flora and fauna diversity are very rich. Our region's habitat is comprised of Mizoram-Manipur-Kachin rainforests. It is a part of the tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests biome. It is a home of many unique and endemic species (Brachychiton acerifolius, Hebenaria dentata, Pecteilis susannae, Exacum tetragonum, Arundina graminifolia, Coelogyne barbata, C. cristata, wild duck, Melastoma spp. Hedychium spp. We used a web portal and built a dynamic and perpetual people biodiversity register, a database for local flora and fauna with global significance. We have documented more than 3300, identified more than 700 species, and curated in our microsite- Rainforest Biodiversity of Phalee within IBP (https://indiabiodiversity.org/group/Rainforest_Biodiversity_of_Phalee). Our primary objectives are the preservation, conservation, and education of Biodiversity and People's Culture. We also work on village Heritage, Environment, as well as Educational and Ecotourism. We aim to improve our agro-system and environment conservation by documenting all the local flora and fauna and the traditional Knowledge associated with them.
